Christine and Jean-Paul stayed in Yverdon for five days. We went back to the chalet with our skis, much to the relief of all the kids, tightly tied on top of the car.

The first day we went down to Yverdon, the Tuesday after we arrived in Gryon, I wasn’t in a good mood. I can’t tell you why, there was nothing in particular; I just woke up a bit dull.
The drive from Basel to Gryon is about three hours. We didn’t get lost once, well, except when we were trying to get out of Basel, but that doesn’t count.
It seemed like Jack was on the platform before the train had even stopped, but it wouldn’t have been possible, we were in Switzerland now, train doors simply don’t open before trains stop.

We arrived in Poggibonsi in the dark after many phone calls for directions to the guy who owned the place we were going to stay at.
When Pete walked from our flat in Rome to the train station to pick up the car we’d hired, he studied every street, memorised their names, noted if they were one way, if you were allowed to turn left or not. (more…)

After another three o clock start, many games of UNO and not even bothering to try and get anyone back to bed we started off to the Colosseum. It was within walking distance of our flat, or so it looked on the map. (more…)
